The community library
The community library is the public catalog every LED.FYI user shares: the hundreds of panels, processors, switches and cards that fill the pickers out of the box. It's community-maintained: if your panel type isn't there yet, you can add it yourself, and it becomes available to everyone.
You browse and contribute from the Community library section at the top of the Equipment library dialog: account menu (top right) → Equipment library….
Sign-in required
The Equipment library dialog needs a signed-in account (Accounts & signing in). No paid plan is required for anything on this page; browsing and contributing panels are free.
Browsing the catalog
- The kind selector switches the list between Panels (the default), Processors, Switches, Output cards, Input cards and Receiver cards.
- The list shows the complete public catalog: everything the pickers know, minus your own personal and org rows (those live in their own sections).
- Type in the search box to filter by brand or model; a count line above the list reads like
24 of 523 Panelswhile filtering (or just523 Panelswhen not). The totals grow as the community adds gear. - Entries you contributed are marked "· yours".
Contributing a panel
Anyone signed in can add a panel:
- Set the kind selector to Panels and click New.
- Fill in the panel spec form; brand and model are required.
- Click Publish to community.
The panel is published immediately (there is no review queue for panels) and appears in every user's pickers. If an identical spec already exists, LED.FYI detects the duplicate server-side and tells you "Already in the community library" instead of creating a copy.
You can later edit or remove your own contributed panels: the pencil icon reopens the spec form (Save changes updates the entry in place), and the trash icon removes it.
Contributing processors, switches and cards
Non-panel kinds are curated. You can't add them from the New button (that's reserved for platform admins).
Processors, processor cards, switches and receiver cards are added by the LED.FYI team. With the kind selector on anything other than Panels, click Request one to open the request card: name the model, add a datasheet link, and send it through Send feedback. Once it's added it appears in this list and in every picker.
Platform admins can also submit a saved spec for review:
- Create the custom processor, card, switch or receiver card (see Creating custom equipment) while signed in, so it lands in Your library. Org rows can be submitted too.
- In Your library, click the row's cloud icon (Submit to the public catalog for review).
- The row shows a Pending review badge while it waits.
A LED.FYI reviewer then either:
- approves it: the spec is promoted into the public catalog (deduplicated against existing entries) and the pickers update immediately, or
- rejects it: the badge is replaced by "Rejected:" plus the reviewer's note explaining why, right on your library row. Your spec stays in your library either way; you can revise and resubmit.
Community edits never touch your projects
Editing (or removing) a community catalog entry changes only the shared catalog; projects that already used the entry keep their embedded snapshot and are completely unaffected. This is deliberate: a public catalog that could silently rewrite existing designs would be a liability, not a feature.
Note the contrast with your own libraries, where editing a row deliberately does update the project you have open.
Admin curation
Platform administrators maintain the catalog: they can author, edit and remove entries of every kind, and they review the submission queue (account menu → Admin → Review submissions…, where each pending item can be approved or rejected with a note). These tools are invisible unless your account has the admin flag; everyday use of LED.FYI never involves them.
