Your account & profile
Everything about your account lives behind the Account menu: the person icon at the right end of the top bar. This page covers the menu itself, your profile, the first-run welcome, cookie preferences, exporting your data, and deleting your account.
The account menu
Signed out, the person icon is a Sign in button that opens the sign-in card as a dialog. Signed in, it opens a dropdown headed by your email address, with:
| Item | What it opens |
|---|---|
| Account settings… | Your profile: name, photo, password, data export, account deletion (this page). |
| Preferences… | App-wide preferences: units, language, colors and more. See Preferences. |
| Cookie preferences… | Analytics consent (web only, and only when analytics is configured; see below). |
| Equipment library… | Publishing and managing your organization's equipment. See Your organization's library. |
| Plan & billing… | Your plan and Stripe billing. See Plans & billing. |
| Team… | Create, join, or manage your team. See Teams & roles. |
| Sign out | Ends the session (and clears the desktop offline license). |
LED.FYI staff accounts additionally see an Admin section (Review submissions, Organizations, Members & support, Analytics, API keys, Trials & comps, Beta codes). These are internal moderation and support tools; regular accounts never see them.
Profile: name, photo, password
Account menu → Account settings… opens your account card, loaded live from your profile:
- Profile photo: click Change photo and pick a PNG or JPEG (about 2 MB max). The default is a generic person icon.
- Email: shown read-only. Changing the account email isn't offered in-app yet.
- Display name: free text (may be left empty); shown to teammates. Click Save to apply.
- Change password: new password + confirm (minimum
6characters), then Update password. No email round-trip needed while you're signed in. - Your data: the GDPR export (below).
- Delete account…: the danger-zone entry (below).
First-run onboarding
Right after your first sign-in, a short Welcome to LED.FYI tour runs once:
- Welcome: what the tour will ask.
- Which units do you work in?
Metric(millimetres · metres · kg) orImperial(inches · feet · lb). Default: metric. See Units. - Your wiring sheet colours: the color sets used for data strings and power circuits on wiring sheets and exports. Defaults are the app's cool-data / warm-power look; tweak now or later.
- Name your first project: defaults to
My first wall; Create project drops you into the editor.
Skip (or Esc) closes the tour at any point. Finishing or skipping marks it complete, so it never shows again; the answers persist like any other preference and can be changed later under Preferences…. See also Sign in & first run.
Preferences follow your account
Global preferences (units, language, wiring colors, and the rest) are stored on your device first and, while you're signed in, mirrored to your account so they follow you across devices. Signing in on a new device adopts the account's preferences; if the account doesn't have any yet, it's seeded from that device. Offline or signed out, the local values simply keep working; nothing is lost. See Preferences.
Your drawing templates follow your account too. Each template is saved to your account on its own, so editing templates on two computers at once never overwrites the other computer's changes, and every change keeps the previous version (⋯ → Version history in the Templates library). Changes made offline are sent the next time you're online.
Cookie & analytics preferences (web)
On first visit, the web app shows a one-time cookie banner (We use cookies for analytics) with Accept and Decline. Nothing optional is tracked until you accept; essential features work either way.
You can change your mind any time via Account menu → Cookie preferences…, which shows your current status ("Analytics are currently enabled/disabled") with Enable analytics / Disable analytics buttons and a link to the Privacy Policy. Withdrawing consent is as easy as granting it.
INFO
The banner and menu entry only exist on web builds with analytics configured. The desktop app never shows them; there, accepting the installed-app terms is the consent. For the full picture of what's stored on your device, see Cookies, analytics & data stored in your browser.
Export your data (GDPR)
Account settings… → Your data → Export my data downloads one JSON file containing everything your account holds: your profile (including your preferences), all cloud projects (including their version history), your drawing templates (drawing sets, sheets, blocks and title blocks (including ones you've deleted), plus each template's saved earlier versions), all custom equipment (panels, processors, switches, input/output cards, and port-labeling schemes), your share links, and any V1-migration records. The file is named led-fyi-data-export-YYYY-MM-DD.json.
If a project came across from the previous version of LED.FYI, the export also carries that project's original file, exactly as the old app saved it, kept alongside the converted version so nothing about the original is lost when you edit the project here. It appears on the project as v1Original, and projects created in this version simply don't have one.
The "Data exported" confirmation appears only once the file is written; in the desktop app, cancelling the save dialog announces nothing, and a file that can't be written is explained with a Save as… link (see Where the file goes).
INFO
The export needs the cloud; it isn't available offline.
Deleting your account (7-day grace window)
Account settings… → Delete account… schedules (not immediately performs) permanent removal of your account, projects, custom equipment, and team membership:
- Type your email address to confirm, then click Schedule account deletion.
- The account is marked for permanent deletion 7 days out. You keep full access for the whole window.
- Reopening the dialog during the window shows the scheduled date and days remaining, with Cancel deletion & keep my account: cancel any time before the date and nothing is lost.
Two situations block the request until you resolve them:
- An active paid subscription: the dialog shows "Cancel it before deleting your account" with a Go to Plan & billing button. Cancel via Manage billing first (see Plans & billing).
- You own a team: a team can never be left without an owner, so hand it over or shut it down first. With other members, transfer ownership to one of them; as the team's only member, delete the team (which also cancels its subscription cleanly). Both live in Team…; see Teams & roles. This applies to any team you own, including an empty one you never used: deleting your account never deletes a team for you, because a team is shared property and losing one should always be something you chose, not a side effect.
WARNING
Once the 7-day window elapses, deletion is final; there is no recovery. If you want to keep your work, run Export my data and download your projects before the date.
Asked for deletion in the old LED.FYI?
Until the old LED.FYI closes on 6 November 2026, the 1.x desktop app and legacy.led.fyi still let you request account deletion. That request is carried over to your account here: it shows up in this dialog as a scheduled deletion, for the date the old app gave you, and Cancel deletion & keep my account works on it like any other. Carrying it over isn't instant, so it can take up to about a week to appear. If you've signed in here since asking, or you have a paid subscription or own a team here, LED.FYI checks with you before scheduling anything. The old app's own Export my data only covers the copy the old LED.FYI kept; for everything you've done since, use Export my data here.
What happens to files you uploaded
Some things you upload are stored as real files at their own web addresses, so that they can be shown without signing in:
- A PDF share's drawing set and an AR share's pictures of your wall's content: anyone you sent the link to has to be able to open them, so the link itself is the key.
- Your profile photo.
When the 7-day window elapses and your account is deleted, all of those files are deleted too, not just the account they belonged to. It happens shortly after the deletion itself rather than at the same instant, so an address someone kept may keep working for a short while and then stop for good.
Two separate delays add up to that "short while", and both are short: the clean-up runs on the hour, so a file can outlive the account by up to an hour; and the delivery network that speeds files up can hand out a copy it already has for up to a minute after the file itself is gone. After that, an address someone saved returns nothing, permanently.
Revoking a share, or deleting the project it belongs to, already removes that share's files immediately; you don't have to delete your account to clean up one link. Files belonging to a link that has simply expired are kept while your account is active; expiry closes the link, and the files go with the rest when the share is revoked or the account is deleted.
What happens to your analytics data
LED.FYI uses PostHog for product analytics (see Cookies, analytics & data). When the 7-day window elapses and your account is deleted, your analytics profile is deleted from PostHog too, together with the usage events recorded against it and any session recordings. As with your files, this runs shortly after the account itself is deleted (on the hour), not at the same instant.
PostHog removes your profile straight away and then clears the underlying events in its own weekly clean-up pass, so the last traces can take up to about a week to disappear from PostHog's storage. If you never accepted analytics, there is usually no profile to delete, and nothing more happens.
Cancelling the deletion during the 7-day window leaves your analytics data exactly as it was; nothing is deleted until the deletion is final.
